Massive Christmas Decorations and Gifting Discounts

Watch to see the fabulous treasures I hauled away 6 days after Christmas. 50% discounts are great, 75-80% is even better.

Here is my video on the first haul I did the day after Christmas.

This holiday season may be over, and immediately after, the post-Christmas and holiday decor sales are primed for you! If you're like me, you love a bargain, especially on boujee stuff that might otherwise be priced out of range!

This is the perfect time to plan for next year and grab some discounted holiday decorations.

Smart Tips for After-Christmas Decoration Shopping

Here are a few tips to make the most of your experience and dollars spent:

Go to your favorite stores before Christmas and make a list and take photos (so you remember) of items you would really like to have, but aren't willing to pay full price for.

Visit each area of your home with a discerning eye and begin making a list of what might need a festive touch next holiday season. Before you pack your current decorations neatly, note the following:

    1. Items You Love: What decorations did you use this year that sparked joy? Are there themes, colors, or styles you’d like to expand on next year? For me, I am really working on my dining room and my primary bedroom, which had very little this year.

    2. Items You Passed Over and Did Not Display: What didb't you use and why?  Are they damaged, outdated, or simply not your style anymore? Donate or discard items you no longer want.

    3. What's Missing and Where Are There Gaps in Your Collection: Did you find yourself wishing for more ornaments, garland, or outdoor lights? Maybe you needed more tree ornaments for a fuller look or a festive wreath for your front door. I wanted more gold, silver and white, while expanding more color into my living room and bar area, loving how that turned out.

Create a Wish List

Once you’ve reviewed your current decorations, jot down what’s missing or what could elevate your décor for next year. Here are some common categories to consider:

  • Tree Decorations: Ornaments, garland, tree toppers, and tree skirts. Poinsettia picks and other items
  • Outdoor Decorations: String lights, inflatables, wreaths, and pathway lights. I wanted to add large ornaments for my outside trees but wanted something very different than what most people are using.

  • Indoor Accents: Table runners, candles, throw pillows, and stockings. More Christmas Critters for my "kid room" guest room.

  • Specialty Themes: Items for a particular color scheme, unique themes (e.g., vintage, rustic, or modern), or kid-friendly decorations. I had a very specific list.

Evaluate Areas of Your Home for Décor

While your decorations are still out, and preferably up and fresh in your mind, think about the areas of your home that could use more holiday cheer next year. Here are some ideas:

Living Room/Area and/or Family Room

One or both of these rooms are often the centerpiece of holiday celebrations. For me, everyone enters through the living room so I like it to have impact right away. The bar for entertaining is there as well, so people do frequent it even though most of the time is spent in my kitchen/family room "great room" area which leads to our outdoor/pool area.

My questions - what do I want more of in each of these areas? Could be more lights for the tree? Some or more festive throw pillows or a cozy holiday blanket for the couch?

Entryway

Welcome guests with a stunning first impression. Look for wreaths, garland, or even a small decorative tree for your foyer. As I have shown in other videos, my entry is a lot of poinsettias outside.

Kitchen

Don’t forget the heart of the home! Consider holiday-themed dish towels, tableware, or a festive centerpiece for the dining table.

Bedrooms

Adding a touch of holiday spirit to bedrooms can be magical, especially for kids. Think mini trees, string lights, or holiday-themed bedding. I'm working on adding a min tree and some other touches to my primary bedroom. This past season I added more pillows, throws, rugs and decor to each guest room.

Outdoors

Do you want to add curb appeal with outdoor lights, pathway markers, or an illuminated yard display? For me, those large ornaments from my tree were big on my list.

Shop These Sales With Purpose

Now that you have your inventory and wish list in hand, you’ll be able to navigate post-Christmas sales with focus and clarity. Here are some tips for getting the most out of your shopping:

  • Start Early: The best deals and selections often go quickly. Shop as soon as possible to snag the best finds. I hit the stores by 8am on December 26th!

  • Think Ahead: Stock up on essentials like wrapping paper, gift tags, and ribbons for next year.

  • Stay Budget-Conscious: While the discounts are tempting, stick to your list to avoid overspending or buying items you don’t need. And, as I showed in the above video, I made my first purchases on 12/26, and then returned a few days later and took advantage of further discounts!

  • Look for Timeless Pieces: Choose decorations that will stay in style for years to come. Shop thrift and consignment stores as well for really cool, unique quality decor.

Bonus Tip: Organize as You Go

As you pack away this year’s decorations and add new finds to your collection, take the time to organize everything. Use labeled bins or boxes to keep similar items together, and make a quick inventory list to reference next year. You’ll thank yourself when it’s time to decorate again!

And, I actually created a decorating calendar and schedule for this next year with Google Calendar reminders of what room and items to decorate so I am not slammed with it all at once!

By planning ahead and shopping smart, you can make the most of post-Christmas sales while ensuring your home is beautifully decorated for seasons to come. Happy shopping!
